Speakeasy

16mm, b/w, silent, English text, US/NL, 1996, 10'

Part of The True Last Words of Dutch Schultz, a multimedia opera written and directed by Valeria Vasilevski, composed by Eric Salzman, performed by Theo Bleckmann, based on the book by William Burroughs: a good oldfashioned biography of a bad oldfashioned racketeer.

Speakeasy is conceived as a scene in the opera: found footage of ‘30ies gangland combined with textual graphics, accompanied by live music.

A collaboration with Karen Cinorre.
